Edinburgh will this week welcome the world premiere of Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty, his third in a trilogy of reworked Tchaikovsky ballets. It promises to be a modern and imaginative take on the classic fairy tale.

RSA Open 2012
RSA, Edinburgh – Monday – Sunday (26 Nov – 2 Dec)
The Royal Scottish Academy invited submissions from artists across the country for this free showcase, all of which must be no bigger than 80cm. Expect a diverse selection of paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints and photographs.
Selling Dreams: One Hundred Years of Fashion Photography
The McManus: Dundee’s Art Gallery and Museum – all week
This major exhibition from the Victoria and Albert Museum features classic works by celebrated photographers including Irving Penn, Helmut Newton, David Bailey, Corinne Day and Rankin.

Neu! Reekie!’s End of Year Bash
Summerhall, Edinburgh – Fri (30 Nov)
Cross-genre night Neu Reekie bring their year to a close with a typically eclectic event at Summerhall’s Royal Dick Bar. The Pastels and TeenCanteen provide the music and there will be readings from George Gunn and Emer Martin.
Platform, Glasgow – Saturday (1 Dec)
An ‘all day celebration of quiet music and art’, Shhhh is a joint effort from The Local, RM Hubbert, Platform and The Line Of Best Fit, with performances by the likes of Gravenhurst, Seamus Fogarty, Wounded Knee and eagleowl.
The Arches, Glasgow – Friday (30 Nov)
Slam’s regular club night Pressure celebrates its 14th birthday with appearances by Green Velvet and DJ Yoda.
