Folk-rock star Martha Wainwright will top the bill at this year’s SummerTyne Americana Festival in Gateshead, which is bringing the very best in American roots music to the banks of the Tyne.
Other acts appearing include neo-country trailblazers The Mavericks, acclaimed singer-songwriter Willy Mason and Nashville gospel legends The McCrary Sisters – who will be paying their first-ever visit to the UK.
Taking place at The Sage on July 19-21, the festival hosts the best acts from genres such as folk, country, blues and bluegrass, at a time when classic ‘Deep South’ music from the US is booming in popularity throughout Britain.
Festival programmer Tamsin Austin said:
“As more and more Americana acts pick up awards across the globe, we are thrilled to be throwing open our doors once again to welcome this year’s contingent of friends from Nashville and across the US and UK, as well as the many dedicated music lovers who support the scene, for another jam-packed weekend of first class music.”
