As cover performances go, this one’s literally out of this world. Astronaut Chris Hadfield has released an amazing video of him performing David Bowie classic ‘Space Oddity’ at the International Space Station.

Commander Hadfield floats in zero gravity while singing famous lyrics including: “Here am I sitting in a tin can, far above the world”.

The guitar and vocals were recorded live in space, while producer Joe Corcoran and pianist Emm Gryner added a full, beautiful arrangement back on planet earth.

Hadfield has now become the first ever person to record a music video in space, while simultaneously fulfilling the ultimate childhood dream of being both rock star and astronaut.

He Tweeted the video to his followers last night, and it’s now become a social media sensation:
