Theatre review: Charlie Dupré Presents… The Stories of Shakey P

Edinburgh Fringe Scotsman review: Charlie Dupré Presents… The Stories of Shakey P at Just the Tonic at The Caves (Venue 88), reviewed by Claire Smith

Posh boys pretending to be rappers can be entertaining – but only if they have a sense of how ludicrous they are.

Charlie Dupré has certainly put a lot of work into this densely written Shakespeare/rap mash-up but he takes himself and his literary notions far too seriously.

Backed by a cellist and a fiddle player his performance style varies wildly between schoolboy Eminem impersonator, overblown Shakespearean actor, Radio 4 lecturer and wide-eyed children’s television presenter.
