At the pop end of the scale Britney and Rihanna may be trying to out-twerk Miley in their new videos this week (good luck with that), but while they’ve been grabbing all the headlines, there’s been no shortage of quality new music grabbing our attention here at WOW247.
Here’s our pick of the week’s best new tracks, as chosen by Richard Thackray.
Attu – ‘Don’t Sleep’
This London based four-piece emerged from the experimentations of Stefan Antoinette, and this track marks the first offering from an EP set to be released early next year. Beginning like an alarm clock ringing in a distant reality, this gives way to a beautiful, dream-like sound.
Tom Neville & Zen Freeman feat. Aaron Paul – ‘Dance Bitch’
With Breaking Bad ending earlier this week, those in need of an Aaron Paul (aka Jesse Pinkman) fix need look no further. Big beats and heavy basslines make this one for the clubs.
Shivum Sharma – ‘Flicker (Bedroom Demo)’
Said to take his inspiration from nocturnal walks around the city, this 18-year-old Londoner proves heavy production isn’t always necessary. Subtle piano backs warm, heartfelt vocals – a promising display of talents for the future.
Fractures – ‘Cadence’
Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Mark Zito‘s project has grown out of a fascination with different music styles and studio experimentation. Considerable hype in his homeland was followed by a hiatus in his output when he was apparently involved in an accident, laying him off for a few months. We wish him well and look forward to more tracks.
Route 94 – ‘My Love’ feat. Jess Glynne
Something of a mystery, this house DJ is supposedly already an established producer. The latest theory suggests the name refers to Interstate 94, linking Detroit to Chicago. Due to appear on Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac‘s latest compilation later this month, here’s an early preview.
OFWGKTA – ‘Look’
Tyler, The Creator, HodgyBeats, Domo Genesis, and Earl Sweatshirt of the LA hip-hop collective often simply known as Odd Future return to the fold. This the first chance in a while to hear the gang together on record, covering some recent themes. (Not for the easily offended).
CHVRCHES – ‘The Mother We Share’ (Moon Boots remix)
Only a couple of weeks since the release of debut album The Bones of What You Believe comes this remix from Chicago-DJ Moon Boots. Here he injects his own flavour of R&B and underground disco into the top 40 hit. Check out our recent interview with the Glasgow band.
Tennis – ‘Mean Streets’
The established husband and wife team from Denver, Colorado, give us a taster of their new EP launched next month. Alaina Moore‘s distinctive vocals will appeal to fans of chilled-out surf pop.
