Best places to eat out in Bournemouth

Of the south coast towns, Bournemouth may not have as much to offer as the likes of Brighton, but the Dorset destination still has a plethora of great restaurants and bars.

Becca Heath, of the fantastic lifestyle blog The Southerner, shares some of the best places to eat out in Bournemouth.

The best thing about the Bournemouth restaurant scene…

You’re never too far away from the sea, meaning there is always an abundance of local and fresh seafood just minutes from your front door.

My favourite place for a quick, no-nonsense bite to eat…

Fish and Chips from Harry Ramsden’s. Positioned right on the seafront, nothing beats an evening stroll watching the sunset with a big bag of greasy but delicious fish and chips.

Best place for a special occasion…

The show-stopping Thai restaurant on the West Cliff, Tiien, is by far my favourite restaurant in Bournemouth. It is the perfect location to celebrate any special occasion and the food is incredible.

Best place for a romantic meal – or first date…

The Edge. A short journey from the town centre and oozing in romance, you can whisk your date up to the restaurant in their super flash glass lift and then watch their jaws drop at the panoramic sea views. It really is a must. Time dinner with sunset for an evening you will not forget.

Specialist restaurants I would recommend…

The Crab is great for seafood. The Whole Dressed Crab and Posh Fish and Chips are big winners in my eyes!

An old favourite I keep going back to…

The Cliff in Canford Cliffs is relaxed but classy, and perfect for an evening of wine and very good food. It’s a pretty glamorous location too without paying sky-high prices.

New restaurants that have impressed me…

The Chicken Shack in Boscombe have me hooked on their free range rotisserie chicken. A simple dish of smoky chicken, mamma’s gravy and hand cut chips… I can’t keep away. They have limited seating inside but do offer a delivery or take away service.

[Reef Encounter]

The best hidden gems…

Reef Encounter in Boscombe for their incredible selection of local produce and Starz American Diner in Charminster for the best burgers in town.

My perfect foodie day in Bournemouth…

Has got to be a BBQ on the beach. I love nothing more than lighting up our BBQ, pouring a glass of wine and watching the world pass us by. We have some great butchers and fishmongers in Bournemouth so we’re always well stocked in the summer for some amazing BBQ feasts with friends!
