Heavy metal Christmas jumpers: A festive fashion trend for 2013?

For the past couple of years, come October high street shops fill up with Christmas jumpers the likes of which haven’t been seen since your granny knitted that hideous Rudolph effort for you when you were a nipper.

These winter-themed sweaters – usually with reindeer, snow crystals or gift-wrapped parcel designs – have been endorsed by everyone from Taylor Swift to Snoop Dogg.

So how do you stand out from your woolly-clad friends this year? Answer: get in on the heavy metal Christmas jumper action.

Queens of the Stone Age have launched their NSFW take on the trend this year, a burgundy and white sweatshirt with two pairs of reindeer having a festive romp. It’s available from the band’s Reckords Reckords label shop for the price of $34.99 (about £22).

However, Josh Homme and co are far from the first rock band to go down the festive merchandise route. Indeed, the onslaught of axe-wielders swapping leather for wool led Metal Injection to announce that the trend has already jumped the shark.
