Hollywood hunk Hugh Jackman is as synonymous with the role of claw-fisted, invulnerable superhero Wolverine as it is possible for an actor to get with a character.
But the star has hinted that he may not be playing the part too much longer.
Jackman has stepped back into the gruff mutant’s shoes once more for forthcoming ensemble blockbuster X-Men: Days Of Future Past. But he says he may not return for a subsequent third solo outing.
Speaking to Vanity Fair about the mooted sequel to this year’s Wolverine, he admitted:
“I don’t know whether or not I will do this next movie. I have a very high expectation of what it would need to be for me to star in it, and if it doesn’t reach that, I won’t be doing it.”
He claimed he’s been enjoying the character “more than ever”, but noted:
“I know that the days are numbered, and there will be a time that I am finished.”
Jackman has portrayed Wolverine in seven separate films over the last 13 years, with the X-Men series and spin-off installments raking in a combined total of $2.4 billion at the box office.
In an in-depth interview on WOW247 this summer, the actor discussed the ups, down and challenges of life as the famous superhero.
He will next be back in Wolverine action in Days Of Future Past – but will this be his final outing?
