In a move that is sure to delight fans and send detractors screaming for the hills, Sex and the City producer Michael Patrick King has claimed that a third movie is a distinct possibility.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said:
“The great gift or riches or luck is that I worked on a show that was so full that it spilled over into people’s lives, and the characters were rounded enough that you could still wonder where they are.
“Sarah Jessica and I both know what that final chapter is. I think there’s one story left. Whether it ever happens is a whole other situation. But there’s four girls, and those girls are still in my mind.”
Sex and the City became a TV phenomenon during its 6-year run in the late ’90s and early ’00s, with its tales of romance, friendship and eyebrow-raising bedroom antics winning millions of devotees and a number of awards.
Two big screen films following-up the series landed in 2008 and 2010. The second one was roundly panned by critics and failed to make much of an impression at the box office, so those who fear the return of Carrie and co can take heart from that fact.
One person who most definitely will not want to see a third Sex and the City movie is Mark Kermode – whose vitriolic review of the sequel went viral several years ago.
