Indie darling Grimes has released the video for her single ‘Go’ and it’s pretty straight-laced… Nah, only joking it’s Grimes – it was always going to be weird.
Grime’s summer single, originally written for but rejected by Rihanna, is high-energy pop featuring the producer Blood Diamonds, full of cut-up vocal FX and heavy dub-step influences.
The Canadian electronic star wrote on her blog that the video is a tribute to Dante’s Inferno, Metal Gear Solid and the X-Men, which is a suitably geeky combination.
Commenting on the song, Grimes, real name Claire Boucher, said:
“It’s our summer jam so we figured we should put it out cuz I am very bored of waiting to finish my album b4 releasing new music haha.”
The video includes fish-eye camera lenses, masked men with huge swords, desert piggybacks, UV lighting and some twist dance moves from Grimes herself.
