5 amazing Sheffield shops you probably didn’t know existed
Rare and Racy

Sheffield is filled with remarkable independent shops, which even many of the locals don’t know about.

On a mission, local blogger Billie Hyde set out to find five shops filled with character without leaving the town centre.

Do you know more quirky Sheffield shops? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter.

Birds Yard

Located on Chapel Walk is Birds Yard, a shop so quirky that it’s hard to pinpoint what their niche is. If you’re going gift shopping or treating yourself, Birds Yard is the place to be, with stationery, crockery, clothes, sweets, books… the list goes on. There’s always a friendly face to greet you and many amazing displays to keep you coming back.

Birds and Beards

Nestled further down Chapel Walk is Birds Yards’ sister shop, Birds and Beards (I think there’s a theme here). Although owned by the same people, Birds and Beards focuses on unique and vintage fashion. Go here to find something you’ve not seen anyone else wearing and be one of the best dressed in Sheffield.

Sour Cherry

Sour Cherry Manchester

Hidden behind the Forum on Devonshire Street you’ll find Sour Cherry, a truly unique jewellery shop with accessories that perfectly sum various personalities. From necklaces that take you right back to your childhood days of playing Pac-man to others more suited to your current fashion choices, this quirky little shop is simply fantastic.

Within Reason

Within Reason Manchester

Also on Devonshire Street you’ll find Within Reason, a more grown up, but just as fun, furniture shop. I say furniture shop, but there are lots of different furniture ideas and knick-knacks for your home; you could enter intending to buy a lamp and leave with a new handbag, some soap and a stuffed giraffe. I was bewildered by their children’s section, with toys and decorations all children need in their rooms.

Rare and Racy

Finally, again on Devonshire Street you can find another hidden gem, Rare and Racy, a store with so many specialities it’s hard to know where to start. From art to books, music to maps, for anyone who wants to bring more culture to their lives, Rare and Racy is where you need to be. Sadly, the shop is currently under threat of demolition, much to the dismay of locals and famous fans, including Jarvis Cocker:

Visit the Facebook page set up to oppose the demolition plans to have your say.
