The Martian trailer lands – a return to form for Ridley Scott?
The Martian

The first trailer for Ridley Scott’s upcoming film The Martian has been released, and the film already looks like it has the potential to blow us away.

Based on the novel of the same name by Andy Weir, the film sees Matt Damon as wayward astronaut Mark Watney, who is left fighting to survive on Mars after being left for dead on the red planet. Imagine Castaway in space, and you’re not far off.

With no way of communicating with NASA, and only enough supplies to last him 31 days, Watney has no choice but to “science the shit out of this”. With lots of emotional turmoil in store, this off-planet story of humanity banding together against insurmountable odds could just be one of the best movies this year.

Co-stars include Jessica Chastain, Jeff Daniels and Sean Bean.

This truly looks like it could be a return to form for Ridley Scott’s career after 2011’s polarising Prometheus, widely slated The Counselor and the disappointing Exodus, but we will have to wait until the end of the year to find out. The movie hits cinemas in November.
