10 of the best late-night bars in Manchester
Blackdog NWS Manchester (Twitter)

Some evenings, you’re just not ready to go home when the pub calls last orders.

You’d like one more for the road. Maybe two.

If only there was somewhere still open, somewhere you could kick back with a cold beer or a cocktail and listen to some good music until the early hours.

Well, here you go. From tropical Tiki hideaways to bourbon bars, our pick of the best late-night drinking dens in Manchester.

The Liquor Store

You’ll be greeted with stylish bare brickwork, vintage Los Angeles Liquor Store signage, a cool soundtrack, and a bar crammed with liquors from around the globe at The Liquor Store. They’re open until 3am every night, so settle in and enjoy the beers, wines and great cocktails. We love the St Hendricks Elderley Rose (Hendricks, St Germain, rose liqueur, lemon juice, prosecco), the Manchester Mule (Absolut vodka, Vimto, fresh lime and cherry bitters, ginger ale), and the Brown Bag Iced Tea (a Havanna Especial heavy twist on the classic, lengthened with honey and cream soda, served in a liquor store brown bag).

Open daily until 3am. Maybrook House, 40 Blackfriars Street, M3 2EG – theliquorstore.co.uk

Black Dog NWS

If you’re looking for a New York style speakeasy, a diner with a pool room, a roof terrace BBQ, and a basement bar and club, open daily until 4am, then head to Black Dog NWS. You can also book a slot in their bespoke karaoke booth, if you feel the late-night urge to belt out some tunes. Food – including 12” pizzas, gourmet and New York style burgers, hot dogs and sharers – is served until 1am, so you can take care of those midnight munchies. They offer a good range of beers and cocktails, including a selection of frozen margaritas.

Open daily until 4am. 11 – 13 New Wakefield St, M1 5NP – blackdogballroom.co.uk

The Liars Club

Boasting the North West’s largest collection of rum, you’re guaranteed a warm welcome as you descend the stairs into a tropical Tiki hideaway at The Liars Lounge. They’re open until 4am daily for rum, fun and flamboyant cocktails – try a flaming Zombie or a potent Nuclear Daiquiri. Sharing cocktails are served in elaborate Tiki volcanoes, coconut shells and pineapples, and the laid-back soundtrack fools you into thinking you’re in far more tropical climes than rainy Manchester. Time flies in this place, and 4am will come round sooner than you think.
