What better way to start off your 2016 than with news that Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Schumer have officially finished writing the first draft of their new movie?
The two are Hollywood’s favourite besties, cementing their friendship last year with a piano-top performance to ‘Uptown Girl’, during a Billy Joel concert. As you do.
They have gone on to co-write a new movie which they will co-star in. How did it come about?
“I watched Trainwreck and I was like, ‘Yep, we’re made for each other,’” Lawrence has said. “I reached out and everything just happened so quickly. We both have very similar senses of humour, obviously, and aren’t afraid, which is a good and bad thing, because I don’t know what our movie will be rated. And we’re both very blunt. So we’ve gotten through a really strenuous process without ever fighting, because we’re both very straightforward.”
J-Law has since announced that an official first draft is in the bag, during an interview with Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music.
“That is done,” she said. “We have finished writing it. We have an official first draft.”
How very exciting.
Here is what we know about the movie so far…
It’s currently untitled
Ok, so this is perhaps something that we ‘don’t’ know, rather than something we do know about the film. So a bit of a sneaky one. But we do know that no final title has been decided upon yet. Suggestions on a postcard.
They play sisters with contrasting personalities
Presumably with some super proud parents. Imagine producing two of the finest women to walk the red carpet. Their sister combination is bound to be amazing in every way. As well as both being naturally hilarious, their real life friendship should work wonders on screen.
Schumer plays the “together one”
Schumer is best known for unrelentingly honest stand up and her role as an off-the-rails, drunked journalist in her movie Trainwreck – a character which she has said was based on events from her life.
Lawrence has said the new film will swap the dynamic, and move away from type-casting that we would expect.
“Amy, in this movie, she has it very together,” Lawrence told Entertainment Tonight. “It’s her lifelong dream to be a flight attendant. She works at the airport. And I’m a mess.”
“It’s a pretty funny, good movie”
Lawrence has said:
“It was hilarious, because when you’re writing a comedy it’s not good enough unless you’re laughing out loud. So I’m laughing at my pages and I’m laughing at her pages and thinking that the whole process is hilarious. I’m thinking we’ve got a pretty funny, good movie.”
We wouldn’t expect anything less.
It’s all kicking off… soon
We don’t have any definitive dates for you. Or any dates at all. But Lawrence told Lauren Laverne:
“I am going to try and fit it somewhere into my ghoulish schedule, and we’re gonna try to do that pretty soon.”
Well, pretty soon is better than nothing.
