It’s impossible to resist being impressed by the steamy wonder of Science Cream’s liquid nitrogen ice cream production, made right in front of your eyes. The artisan ice cream is unbeatably creamy and wonderfully sweet.
3. Revisit the love story of Romeo and Juliet
They didn’t exactly have the ideal relationship, but it’s hard not to be moved by Romeo and Juliet’s star-crossed love. BBC National Orchestra of Wales are bringing the story to life at St David’s Hall on Valentine’s night.

Homemade stuff is cute and thoughtful. Google a tutorial, get some craft supplies and have a go. If it looks like a child made it, just say that it’s the thought that counts. Alternatively, go to a craft workshop from someone like Green City Events and make something beautiful under expert supervision.

13. Go to the museum and pretend you get the weird art
Fine art isn’t for everyone, but there’s usually something in the museum to please even the trickiest customers. It’s free to wander around, so why not have a go at being an art pundit for half an hour? You may surprise yourself.

Who says that the only romantic way to boogie is slow-dancing? Not us! There are a fair few alternative Valentine’s nights in Cardiff. Try Gwdihw’s 69 Love Songs, where local musicians cover The Magnetic Field’s hyperreal love-inspired LP, or get pogoing to Bowling For Soup live in The Great Hall.
18. Experience tranquility with a swim at St David’s Hotel’s Marine Spa
Glide through the warm indoor swimming pool, paddle through the water corridor with swan-neck fountains or look out onto the Bay from the hydrotherapy spa pool.

If inflatables, floats and twisting water slides are more your thing, head to Cardiff International Pool. You’ll feel like the ultimate big kid.

Hire a dinky rowing boat for two in Roath Park and sail around the scenic lake. Keep an eye out for swans!

This little town on the other side of Cardiff Bay is ideal for stretching your legs, sharing a bag of chips, sampling nostalgic sweets and skimming stones.

The Dead Canary has been causing a stir since it opened in December for two reasons: the strong cocktails are expertly made, plus the bar is deliberately difficult to find. Have fun scouting it out on Barrack Lane (read this for a clue on where to find it).
23. Go dog spotting and duck feeding in Roath Park
Take a leftover loaf and don your comfy shoes for an afternoon of chucking bread at the ducks and eyeing up some of the super cute pooches loving life in Roath Park.
