Bristol balloons

So, Valentine’s Day is on the horizon and you’re not sure where to take your other half/loved one/crush/Tinder date to make ’em feel special.

Call off the search: we’ve been getting our Cupid on to find you the best date spots Bristol has to offer.

1. Fall in love with the view

Wander through Brandon Hill – the oldest park in Bristol and climb to the top of ornate Cabot Tower together and watch the world go by from on high.

Free, Brandon Hill Park, Great George St, Harbourside, BS1 5RR, 0117 922 3719

2. …and another one

Where to find another heartwarming view? One right beside Clifton Suspension Bridge, of course! Admire the knockout view of the city together as you cuddle up against the February weather…cute. (You’ll find the perfect bench right by Clifton Observatory)

Litfield Rd, BS8 3LT

3. Set sail (sort of)

There’s something undeniably romantic about hopping aboard a boat to enjoy a tipple. May we recommend the much-loved Under The Stars and The Apple, to name a couple? They’re truly Bristolian spots to fall in love…just make sure you don’t fall overboard.

Under the Stars, Narrow Quay, Harbourside, Avon, BS1 4QA, 0117 929 8392, underthestarsbar.co.uk

The Apple, Welsh Back, BS1 4SB, 0117 925 3500, applecider.co.uk

4. Get picture perfect

Capture your romance on film with a couple’s photoshoot at Clifton Photographic Company. There’s a range of packages on offer, all including a full 3-4 hour makeover and photoshoot.

74 Alma Road, BS8 2DJ, 0117 909 8985, cliftonphoto.co.uk

5. Be cool kids

Add a sense of mystique to your romantic rendezvous, and stop by one of our great city’s speakeasy-style bars. The Milk Thistle and Hyde & Co are far too cool for things like signage, so you’ll have to know where to look…

Milk Thistle, Quay Head House, Colston Avenue BS1 1EB, 0117 929 4429

Hyde & Co, The Basement, 2 Upper Byron Pl, BS8 1JY, 0117 929 7007

6. Discover great platefuls

Sharing’s caring, and that’s why Pata Negra’s a great choice as a Valentine’s venue. Fill your table with classy tapas and tuck in.

30 Clare St, Bristol BS1 1YH, 0117 927 6762, patanegrabristol.com

7. Play it cool

For a low-key but trendy Valentine’s meal out (sometimes, you just don’t feel like being flashy, and that’s okay), pop to Cupp bubble tea and noodle bar, or Proven for top-notch pizza by the slice. Perfect for when you’re in a rush to get home for *ahem* dessert…

Cupp, Cabot Circus, BS1 3DF, 07871 903073, cuppteabar.co.uk

Proven, 33 St Stephen’s Street, BS1 1JX, 07724 183209, provenpizza.uk

8. Go stargazing

Gazing at the night’s sky just got seriously high-tech. Take your plus one to @Bristol’s 3D planetarium (it’s the first in the UK, don’t you know), and enjoy a guided tour of the heavens… in the middle of the day, if you fancy.

Anchor Road, Harbourside, BS1 5DB, 0117 915 1000, at-bristol.org.uk

9. Believe you can fly

Heat things up with a hot air balloon flight – watch the world unfold below as you gaze on, hand in hand with your loved one. Aww, you guys.

10. Learn something new (and naughty…)

Get stuck in on Friday 12 Feb at Bristol’s saucy After Hours: SEX event. Drink in hand, take the night to explore this awesome science centre. It’s an adults-only, kids-free event, so prepare to be taught a thing or two.

Anchor Road, Harbourside, BS1 5DB, 0117 915 1000, at-bristol.org.uk

11. Get in tune

Love live music? Get yourself down to The Black Swan on Friday 12 Feb for Love of Dub, to dance your way into Valentine’s weekend with laidback samba, reggae and more.

12. Love to laugh

Came in to Tobacco Factory Theatres on Monday morning to this lovely comment on our blackboard!

If you’re a pair of jokers, have a chuckle together at The Tobacco Factory with award-winning comic Tony Law. You might have spotted him on Have I Got News For You, or Never Mind The Buzzcocks. Laughs – and a great date night – guaranteed.

Raleigh Road, BS3 1TF, 0117 902 0344, tobaccofactory.com

13. Live for the weekend

Or you could make your whole weekend musical with this fest from the lovely folk at BBC 6 Music. With a long line-up of greats including Roots Manuva, Foals, Roni Size and Laura Marling, we reckon this is the perfect way to soak up the tunes you love with the one you love.

14. Party all night long

Garage, house, R&B: it’s all at The Old Crown Courts for their Valentine’s Ball on Saturday 13th February. Dance your way into V-Day – this beauty of a night runs straight through until 5am.

Bridewell Island, Bridewell Street, BS1 2QD, 0117 904 9054

15. Indulge in extraordinary eats

Keep it traditional with the dreamy menu at Casamia. Michelin-starred and brand-spanking new, this is the place to go when only the very best will do.

The General, Guinea St, BS1 6SX, 0117 959 2884, casamiarestaurant.co.uk

16. Have a laugh

Or hit up the Hippodrome for more top comedy from Avenue Q. From the makers of the wildly popular The Book Of Mormon, this is sure to be a night of banter with your beau.

St Augustine’s Parade, BS1 4UZ, 0844 871 3012, booking.com/Bristol-hippodrome

17. Try tunes for two

Check out Two Man Ting, at the Tobacco Factory. Lopa Kothari of BBC Radio 3 says of one of their tunes, ‘Duvet Song’: “Quite delightful! Duvet Song will get you dancing under the covers…” Cheeky!

Raleigh Road, BS3 1TF, 0117 902 0344, tobaccofactory.com

18: Embrace your wild side

Get closer to nature – and your date – as you take a walk around Bristol Zoo Gardens and learn a thing or two about all sorts of bright and beautiful creatures. We recommend feeding the lorikeets together, and strolling through the butterfly tunnel.

Clifton, BS8 3HA, 0117 974 7300, bristolzoo.org.uk

19. Take a woodland walk

Wrap up warm and take a tranquil country walk straight from the city into Leigh Woods (it’s by the suspension bridge). Climb up high enough through the woodland, and you’ll get amazing views of the bridge, Avon Gorge and the city beyond.

20. Do some serious sipping

Are you a pair of coffee fanatics? Whisper sweet nothings (or, you know, just have a nice natter together) at this cosy, cool cafe. Perch on a kooky indoor swing and play board games as you sip your brews.

Playground Coffee House, 45 St Nicholas St, BS1 1TP, 0117 329 0720, playgroundcoffee.co.uk

21. Try a staycation

Why not upgrade your date night with a hotel stay? We love luxury townhouse hotel Number 38: chic decor, open fires, rolltop tubs, a terrace with amazing views. It turns out you don’t actually have to leave town to indulge in a special (not to mention stylish) getaway.

38 Upper Belgrave Road, Clifton, BS8 2XN, 01179 466905,  number38clifton.com

22. Time to get swanky

Or, if you’re set on an indulgent out-of-town venture, may we recommend The Pig. This good lookin’ ‘restaurant with rooms’ is just what you foodies have been looking for – whether you dine or stay too, you’ll be well and truly spoilt here.

Hunstrete, Pensford, Near Bath, BS39 4NS, 01761 490490, thepighotel.com/near-bath

23. Unwind and reconnect

Take a dip together, grab a wholesome brunch and feel generally revived at The Lido (it’s quite the hangover cure, we might add. And perfect for pre-date relaxation. Or, you know, just find any excuse you can to go…)

Oakfield Place, Clifton, BS8 2BJ, 0117 933 9530, lidobristol.com

24. Massage for two

In fact, while you’re there, why not try out the spa together? The Lido even has a couples’ treatment room, so you can enjoy massages together.

25. Finally… embrace your silly side

Head to Jungle Rumble Adventure Golf (it’s on the top floor of Cabot Circus – yes, really) and try some goofy golfing with your date. The perfect way to let loose and break the ice.

Cabot Circus, 76 Glass Walk, BS13BQ, 0117 929 7771, junglerumble.co.uk
