The best new additions to Amazon Prime in April

From cult classics to great new TV comedy, we’re about to see a massive update to the streaming service’s catalogue.

Here are five picks you should definitely check out, along with a rundown of everything else hitting Amazon Prime in April.

The Big Lebowski

big lebowski

What is it? A White Russian-fuelled mix-up adventure into the heart of the LA underworld, featuring Jeff Bridges as The Dude; the king of laid-back capers. Yet another classic from the Coen brothers that surely ranks as a ‘must see’ for anyone who loves comedy-drama.

Ferris Bueller’s Day Off

Ferris Bueller

What is it? The ultimate ‘bunking off school’ movie follows Ferris Bueller, top of the popularity hierarchy at North Maine High School, who drags along his best pal and girlfriend on a day of unlimited adventures when he should be hard at work in class. A smart sideways take on ‘coming of age’; full of ’80s nostalgia.

What is it? Speaking of ’80s nostalgia, a must-watch is what Gremlins is, with its freaky horror elements (seriously, those things are scary goddammit) and goofy comedy. Gremlins is about… well, Gremlins, a race of weird troll/monster/nutters that are inadvertently released into a small town. Do not watch after midnight.

Catastrophe: Season 2

What is it? A thing of transatlantic sitcom beauty, starring American stand-up and funniest-man-on-Twitter Rob Delaney and London-based Irish comic Sharon Horgan as its leads. Expect plenty of jokes about David Cameron’s shiny forehead, arguments about how to make a cup of tea, and ambiguous terms for bread cakes.

Veep: Season 2

What is it? American political comedy starring the legendary Seinfeld actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus and created by satire genius Armando Ianucci. Ripping the ridiculousness that is American politics in scorching and unrelenting style, it’s pretty much laughs all round, with minimal political jargon.
