The Swedes know how to do things right; Swedish-inspired bar Akva has not one but two kids corners full of toys and games to keep the children entertained whilst you enjoy a drink. It’s great for brunch too and even has a dedicated kids brunch menu.

This quirky family-run pub down by The Shore is sure to amaze kids with their endless supply of vintage hats and Mad Hatters-esque decor. Kids are welcome in the lively bar area until 5pm, or grab a table through in the quieter back room for dinner and drinks with the little ones up until 10pm.

The Salisbury Arms
In a previous life The Salisbury Arms was a very studenty pub, but since its renovation a few years ago it has been transformed into a cosy, relaxing and family friendly pub. They also have a lovely beer garden which is great for sunny days.

Is there anything kids like more than a trip to the seaside? The Espy, which overlooks Portobello Beach, is very kid friendly and serves food all the way from breakfast to dinner. Dogs are welcome too, so it’s the perfect pub lunch pit-stop on a family day out.

Just because you’ve got little ones in tow doesn’t mean you have to miss out on amazing gastropub food. At The Ox you can enjoy casual dining and delicious locally sourced food, and there’s even a “Wee Calf’s” menu so the kids can join in with the gastropub fun too.

The Sheep Heid Inn
Been out for a long day of adventuring round Arthur’s Seat and the Crags with the kids? The Sheep Heid Inn in Duddingston is the perfect family friendly pub to stop off at for some food and drinks to refuel. They even have an antique skittles bowling alley to keep the little ones amused.

The Bothy, which is part of the Murrayfield Hotel, has cosy surroundings so its perfect place to have a relaxed pub meal with the children. Open since 1898, Joseph Pearce’s has previously been a grocery and a wine merchant, and now it’s a Scandi-inspired family friendly pub. JP’s is stocked with toys for the kids to play with, and plenty of high chairs so little ones can join in with lunch or dinner.

If you’re looking for a stylish pub which is still kid friendly, try The Orchard in Canonmills. The pub has a chilled out atmosphere and friendly staff, and kids are welcome in the dining room until 8.30pm.
