The Edinburgh International festival have shared their 2016 lineup, and big post-rock noises Mogwai are making their debut at the eclectic cultural event.

The EIF is one of several festivals running in Edinburgh throughout August, with a previous reputation for favouring more high-brow music and theatre – but which has taken a new and exciting direction in the past few years.

Scottish band Mogwai are set to make their first appearance on the festival bill as part of Deep Time – an outdoor event free to the public soundtracked by the band, with digital artwork projected onto Edinburgh Castle.

Mogwai will be then popping up again, as part of a series of concerts celebrating contemporary Scottish acts, which will include performances from Young Fathers, Hudson Mohawke and Aidan Moffat.

Artists from further afield on the bill include American experimental producer Oneohtrix Point Never as well as ethereal Icelandic outfit Sigur Ros and more post-rock favourites Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

It’s a big thumb-ups from us, guys!

Edinburgh International Festival takes place August 5-29 at various Edinburgh venues
