Yes, we all know that in this digital age, PR and building hype are what’s needed to really get people talking about your product. But this is getting silly now.
Finally, we’ve got out first glimpse of Rogue One, the new Star Wars film that is due out this December – and the first of the so-called ‘Star Wars Story‘ series. Only problem is, it’s actually a teaser for a trailer…
Yes, wrap your heads around that one. The ten-second teaser is blink-or-you’ll-miss-it stuff, and is actually a teaser for the full trailer’s official reveal over on the States’ Good Morning America morning show.
If our understanding of time zones is correct, we could be looking at a full Star Wars nerdgasm around midday UK time, but for now we’ll just have to make do with the brief snippet below:
Rogue One takes place between episodes III and IV of the main timeline’s series, and tells the story of the squadron of fighter pilots on a mission to steal the original Death Star’s plans for the rebellion.
The teaser appears to show a black-clad Stormtrooper with a hefty looking helmet that may have some kind of ventilation equipment built in. Could we be seeing a showdown on a toxic planet? Or is this simply a transitional uniform between the Clone Armies of the prequel to the Stormtroopers of the original trilogy?
It’ll be interesting to see how the producers are able to fit new characters, vehicles and all the other cool toys that get us excited for each instalment of the saga in a timeline already well covered by the films and other media, but we’re in doubt they’ll manage it.
We’ll have to a wait a few hours for any more information, but rest assured that when we know, you’ll know.
Star Wars: Rogue One is due for release on December 16.
