Leeds city centre to become an outdoor cinema this July
Millennium Square

Millennium Square is to be transformed into an outdoor cinema space later this month, bringing big screen blockbusters to Leeds city centre.

A whole host of special events and activities have been lined up to ensure the Film House On The Square outdoor cinema experience is not one to forget.

Organisers have chosen four hugely iconic films to get the first Millennium Square movie season off the ground from Wed 27 July:

Kicking off proceedings on Wed July 27 will be 60s-set smash hit musical Grease, a singalong version of the Travolta classic. Visitors are encouraged to dress up in typical Grease attire, T Birds, Pink Ladies and all, with viewers treated to an all-American experience including burger bars, milkshake stands and fairground rides.

Avengers Assemble

Thurs July 28 sees two separate screenings at Millennium Square, with high octane superhero adventure film Avengers Assemble taking the screen during the afternoon. Very much with the kiddies in mind, visitors will get the chance to meet a number of their favourite superheroes that feature in the film, including Iron Man, Captain America, The Hulk, Thor, Black Widow and Hawkeye. Again, all are encouraged to dress up for the occasion, and prizes will be awarded to the best outfits.

With superheroes packed off for the evening, it’s the turn of 007 to turn protagonist on the evening of July 28 in Skyfall. Reckoned by many to be one of the finest Bond films of all time, it’ll be accompanied by a handful of cocktail bars, a fully fledged mobile casino, and the appearance of an Aston Martin. Oh, and you guessed it, dress to impress.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Lucky Loiners won’t have to jet off to a galaxy far, far away for an extra special screening of the latest Star Wars flick, which gets the benefit of two screenings on Fri July 29. The film received rave reviews as it brought the Star Wars saga back into our lives last Christmas, offering up new protagonists alongside firm Force favourites including Han Solo and Princess Leia. Stormtroopers will be in attendance to keep everything in order, along with a number of other characters.
