Shoppers in Edinburgh were in for a surprise today when Trainspotting stars Ewan McGregor and Ewen Bremner recreated their sprint along Princes Street during filming of the sequel.
The pair, who play Renton and Spud respectively, were caught on camera by fans dashing out of the Urban Outfitters store at the West End of the thoroughfare.
While it’s unclear what part this chase scene will play in the sequel, one thing’s for sure: their fashion sense is more upmarket now than it was in 1996:
McGregor and Bremner emerged from the Urban Outfitters shop, which had been transformed into an Apple Shop for the day – so presumably the real Apple Shop at the East End didn’t let them film the scene.
As the filming was taking place in the heart of the Scottish capital, there were signs warning pedestrians they could become unwitting extras:

Director Danny Boyle has been filming the long-awaited Trainspotting sequel in parts of Edinburgh and Glasgow over the last few months, and we’ve been compiling fan photos in our Trainspotting spotting blog.
Recent filming locations have included The Cav nightclub, a hospital, Muirhouse and the Scottish Parliament.
T2 is set for a January 27, 2017 release
