The Big Lebowski has died, aged 85
David Huddleston

Big Lebowski actor David Huddleston, who played the eponymous, angry wheelchair-bound millionaire in the 1998 cult Coen Brothers classic, has passed away at the age of 85

His family confirmed he died on Tuesday of advanced heart and kidney disease.

The veteran performer, who had a knack for scene-stealing, eccentric turns, also appeared in such famous films as Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles – and played jolly St Nick himself in Santa Claus: The Movie.

But many cinephiles will always remember him for his verbal sparring opposite Jeff Bridges in The Big Lebowski.

Tributes have been pouring in from former co-stars and fans alike:

“Are you surprised at my tears sir?”
