Five Leeds secrets we’ve uncovered this August
Leeds City Centre

Leeds is constantly awash with a whole host of exciting titbits, be them swanky new openings, freshly cooked up events or mouth-watering new menus.

But what are the biggest and bestest things to keep an eye out for in the coming months?

1. The Norther Quarter is about to welcome some finery

Among a seemingly never ending run of funky bars, gig venues and nightspots, there has never really been a top drawer restaurant for the Nothern Quarter to hang their hat on. Until now.

Welcome Vice & Virtue, a smart and savvy fine dining restaurant that is likely to be the first marker in a number of foodie moves to that area. Having been serving high end cocktails for a while now, a shift in style at the sports bar formerly known as Henley’s, will see customers offered a menu stacked with good, wholesome grub made from locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. British fine dining is the rather exciting theme, and the restaurant will open some time in September.

2. The Majestic is going places

As we mentioned last week, The Majestic has been snapped up and is finally set to make use of its beautiful city epicentre surroundings. Sure, it’s reincarnation as another cheesy nightclub is not to be, and it would’ve been cool to have it as a concert venue or cinema, but we’re just glad to see the space used in some form or other.

The office spaces wont be done for a long while, though, with no official date mentioned for either the start of work or it’s opening.

3. We’re being treated to an Oktoberfest…

Oh yes. Guten tag, fraulines, we’re getting boozy this October with the advent of Leeds’ very first Oktoberfest event, to be held at the world’s spiritual home of beer at The Tetley. There will be no fewer than four days of Bavarian food, bier and music from Thursday 6 October to Sunday 9, and it will take place in a spectacular 2,000 capacity German big top tent, hosting various bars and traditional food stalls, and a stage to accommodate the festival’s in house band for the weekend.

Check out their website for more info and to book tickets.

4. …and a pop-up panto

It’s been announced that Leeds will welcome its very first outdoor pantomime in the December, to be rather grandly set up in the grounds of The Tetley. Scotty T, of Geordie Shore and CBB fame will head up the cast as the prince. Corrie’s Tupele Dorgu also features, as does Last Of The Summer Wine royalty Louis Emerick. The fun kicks off on December 8, and more information can be found at their website.

5. Victoria Gate has an opening date

At long last! We made it! The latest multi-million pound development in Leeds has been something of a saga, but we’re delighted to announce that Victoria Gate anchor tenant John Lewis will open its doors to the public for the first time on Thursday 20th October, 2016.

Set to transform the city’s retail, dining and leisure scene, Victoria Gate will become part of the new 53,400m2 (575,000 sq ft) Victoria Estate shopping district, which also includes Leeds’ Victoria Quarter arcades. The scheme is currently 74% pre-let and will also boast new retailers and restaurants including Russell & Bromley, Aspinal of London, Le Pain Quotidien, Neom Organics, T2, GANT, Hackett, Tommy Hilfiger, Anthropologie and international restaurant group D&D.
