There’s plenty happening in Sheffield this October, including the Off The Shelf Festival, Sheffield Beer Festival and Last Laugh Sheffield Comedy Festival, as well as Oktoberfest and Halloween.

4 Oct: Ugly Kid Joe at the O2 Academy – Enjoying mainstream popularity since the 1990s, American band Ugly Kid Joe’s sound touches on a range of styles including southern, funk, rap and thrash – more info

6 Oct: Richard Herring live – Comedian Richard Herring picks his favourite routines from his 12 one-man shows and crams them into a 90-minute performance at Sheffield City Hall – more info

6 Oct: DJ Yoda – Award-winning hip hop DJ and producer DJ Yoda presents Stranger Things: The Mixtape Live at The Plug, drawing on sources as diverse as classic movies, obscure television shows, and viral youtube clips – more info

9 Oct: Our Friends in the North marathon screening – This year sees the 20th anniversary of the critically-acclaimed BBC television series Our Friends in the North, and you can watch the lot – fuelled by some great pizzas – at Picture House Social – more info

9 Oct: Jason Byrne is Propped Up – A brand new show at Sheffield City Hall from acclaimed comedian Jason Byrne as part of the Last Laugh Sheffield Comedy Festival – more info

12 Oct: Rich Hall – Award-winning Montana comedian Rich Hall brings his trademark grouchy, deadpan style to Sheffield City Hall, once again for the Last Laugh Sheffield Comedy Festival – more info

13 Oct: Lo and Behold: Reveries of the Connected World – Werner Herzog explores the effect of the internet and the wonders of robotics in his new documentary – showing at The Curzon – with a satellite Q&A hosted by Richard Ayoade, live from the London Film Festival – more info

14 Oct: Stuart Archer, the Culinary Chemist – Head to Inox for an evening with Stuart Archer, the Culinary Chemist and MasterChef UK 2016 finalist for a five-course dinner of MasterChef-inspired dishes, as well as a Q&A session – more info

15 Oct: The Divine Comedy – The orchestral pop band from Northern Ireland play The Foundry, with songs from their eleventh studio album Foreverlandmore info

19 – 22 Oct: Sheffield Beer Festival – The annual Sheffield Beer Festival takes place at Kelham Island Museum, featuring three separate bars, two International bottle bars and an on-site pub, showcasing over 300 ales and ciders with all 23 Sheffield breweries accounted for – more info

20 Oct: Stuart: A Life Backwards – A chance to see the iconic film starring a young Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hardy, followed by a Q&A with Nightstop South Yorkshire about their work tackling homelessness – more info
