Arnold Schwarzenegger says Terminator reboot has ‘the same feel’ as T2

Action legend Arnold Schwarzenegger has claimed that the forthcoming Terminator reboot will have plenty in common with the beloved second instalment in the series.

The veteran actor, who is returning as the titular cyborg yet again, says the script reminded him instantly of modern classic T2.

Terminator 5

Speaking to Collider, he revealed:

“The way it reads, it has the same feel of Terminator 2.  It’s big.  There’s hardcore action and it has some really great visual effects in there, but not over the top.

“We start shooting at the end of April in New Orleans.”

Currently titled Terminator: Genesis, the reboot is set to resurrect the seminal sci-fi movie series, which started back in 1984 with James Cameron’s hit suspense thriller.

Game Of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke has been confirmed as the new Sarah Connor, while Jai Courney will play protector-from-the-future Kyle Reese.

JK Simmons has been linked to the part of a world-weary cop on the trail of the killer cyborg.

The plot of Terminator: Genesis will seemingly leap about in time and space, with director Alan Taylor teasing that it will be neither a straight reboot nor a continuation – but “a very interesting straddling of the two”.

The Terminator was a critical and commercial success on its release. Starring Schwarzenegger as a killer cyborg from the future and Linda Hamilton as Connor, his unfortunate target, it spawned a number of sequels and spin-offs – the most recent of which was 2009′s Terminator Salvation.

Schwarzenegger added that he felt privileged to be a part of the new project.

“I think that it’s just so wild to have a franchise that has been around for that long, and then after 30 years, to get asked again to be the only character in a movie that is the same character is unheard of, in movie history.

“You always switch out, like with James Bond and Batman.  They have new characters there.  But, not here.

“That, to me, is an extraordinary situation and a great opportunity.  Of course, I was honored when I was asked to come back and play the character with Sarah Connor.”

The previous four films in the series have amassed a combined total of $1.5 billion at the box office.
