Martin Freeman stars in first trailer for Fargo TV drama – watch
Martin Freeman and Billy Bob Thornton feature in the first trailer for the television version of Coen Brothers classic Fargo – watch it below.
The drama series, which Freeman has described as being “kind of in the same universe without being literally the same story”, finds the star of The Office and The Hobbit trilogy playing a character similar to William H. Macy’s bumbling car salesman Jerry Lundegaard.
Aptly enough, the television version preserves the bleak, wintry landscape and the slow, recognisable soundtrack of the 1996 film.
Fargo will screen on Channel 4 in the UK and gets its premiere on April 15 on FX in the US.
It also stars newcomer Allison Tolman in a role similar to Frances McDormand’s wonderfully unconventional detective (for which she won an Oscar), Bob Odendirk (who will soon star in Breaking Bad spin-off Better Call Saul), Colin Hanks (Orange County, Band of Brothers) and Adam Goldberg (Saving Private Ryan, 2 Days in Paris).
The Midwest-set Fargo still ranks as one of the Coen Brothers’ finest films, and its pitch-black humour and eccentric characterisation helped establish the careers of Macy, McDormand and Steve Buscemi.
