Morrissey asked to appear on ‘The Archers’

Morrissey has had quite a week so far. He’s unveiled his new album and sent his first ever tweet – and now the outspoken singer has apparently been asked to cameo in long-running radio series The Archers.

Will he show up with a punctured bicycle – on a hillside desolate?

The thought of the former Smiths frontman appearing in the rural soap may seem bizarre, but Morrissey is “fascinated” by the offer according to BBC News, and may use the appearance to air his infamous views on the livestock and meat industry.

The Archers began in 1950 and is the longest-running radio soap opera anywhere in the world. Well-known for its distinctive theme tune and cultural endurance, it has recently attracted celebrity guests such as Sir Bradley Wiggins and the Duchess Of Cornwall.

Morrissey may well have less qualms about engaging with British institutions these days.  He’s currently embarking on a US tour with Tom Jones and Cliff Richard as support acts.

Could we even expect a cover/mash-up of the famous theme tune?
