There’s a huge range of food and drink festivals taking place across the UK this summer, from humble tasting sessions to massive outdoor tented villages. We’ve chosen 17 of the best…

junipalooza
[Junipalooza: a gin lover's idea of heaven in London]

Hello Indonesia

31 May: Trafalgar Square, London; more info

Not just a food event this, but a celebration of the culture of Indonesia, featuring a showcase of Balinese dance, music by a Javanese Gamelan group – and of course food from top chef Vindex Tengker.

The Yorkshire Food and Drink Show

6 – 8 June: Millennium Square, Leeds; more info

There’ll be live cookery demonstrations from leading chefs, artisan food specialists exhibiting rare produce, kids’ cookery classes and a French-themed ‘Grand De Party’. Expect everything from pork popcorn and bird’s nest soup, to watermelon Carpaccio and edible Japanese clay.

The UK’s biggest touring food festival has a series of shows lined up this summer. As well as appearances from top chefs, there are new additions like a Feasting Tent, a Vintage Tea tent and a Chilli Food Market, to get the juices going.

Junipalooza

6 – 8 June: Factory 7, London; more info

Drinks shows can often be boring, trestle table infested affairs. Thankfully, the team at Gin Foundry are putting a stop to this with Junipalooza. Featuring fun, immersive installations that combine botanicals, industrial warehousing, music and gin, Junipalozza is set to be the UK’s biggest ever event dedicated to gin.

Promising “meat, music and mayhem”, Grillstock sounds like our kind of party. Taking over Manchester’s Albert Square and Bristol’s Harbourside on separate weekends in June, over 40 bands including the Fun Lovin’ Criminals and Hayseed Dixie will provide the soundtrack, while punters get their jaws around the eating competitions.

BBC Good Food Summer Show

12 – 15 June: NEC, Birmingham; more info

The big daddy of the foodie shows. Featuring more than 200 producers and tips on how to prepare for summer in your kitchen and al fresco dining, this massive event will also feature the likes of James Martin, The Hairy Bikers, John Torode and Greg Wallace.

Tasty Science: Discover beer at WEST

Discover the science behind your favourite bevvy in Glasgow’s best-loved microbrewery, WEST. Meet the beer experts, take a behind-the-scenes tour and enjoy four delicious beer tasters.

Rioja Tapas Fantastic

Now in its seventh year, Rioja Tapas Fantastic is the place to taste a sensational range of red, white and rose wines from some of Rioja’s most famous vineyards, and sample authentic Spanish cuisine from some of London’s best restaurants and street food venders.

A truly unique event where visitors get a delicious taster of the latest, greatest and most exciting restaurants in London in one stunning location. The alfresco feast features the hottest chefs in live demonstrations as well as hands on cooking experiences.

Bournemouth Food and Drink Festival

20 – 29 June: various venues, Bournemouth; more info

Incorporating a street food festival, world food market, cocktail masterclasses and much more, Bournemouth’s 10-day celebration of eating and drinking is one of the south coast’s main foodie events.

V Delicious

4 – 6 July: Olympia, London; more info

Vegetarians get a whole foodie event to themselves with V Delicious, a gastronomic and culinary entertainment day out, where visitors can revel in their passion for veggie and vegan food, drink and living.

Gin Tasting

24 July: The Foundling Museum, London; more info

Explore the wonders of ‘mothers ruin’, tantalize your tastebuds, and learn about the history of gin from 1690 to present day with a particular emphasis on the mid-eighteenth century ‘gin craze’.
