Skyfall actor Ben Whishaw has replaced Colin Firth as the voice of Paddington – everybody’s favourite marmalade sandwich addicted bear from deepest Peru.

Following the departure of Firth, who cheekily used the term ‘conscious uncoupling’ when announcing the decision, Whishaw has now stepped in to voice the anthropomorphic favourite.

Arriving at Paddington Station, the cuddly character (named after the London train station) is welcomed into the Brown family home, and must avoid an evil taxidermist played by Nicole Kidman.

The trailer for the film, released last month, only included various grunts, ‘hmm’s and ‘whoa’s after Firth’s departure. It’s been made by Mighty Boosh director Paul King, suggesting strong comical elements.

Whishaw also recently replaced Sacha Baron Cohen as Freddie Mercury in the upcoming Queen biopic. Looks like he’s now the go-to guy if your lead drops out.

Paddington’s cast will also include Peter Capaldi, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent and Hugh Bonneville.
