Reading and Leeds festivals boss: ‘I’ve booked next year’s headliner’
Reading and Leeds festivasl boss Melvin Benn has revealed that the first headline act for next year’s event has already booked.
Before watching the Arctic Monkeys top the bill at the weekend, Festival Republic boss Benn told Graham Walker that the Sheffield group are a “brilliant band” and also paid tribute to the “great songs” of Jake Bugg, who warmed up the crowd for the headliners.
He also said that he still takes a hands-on approach to the festival, which attracts 70,000 fans each day, by switching the lights on and off each day.
Commenting on the line-up for 2015, Benn said:
“The reality is that I’ve booked a headliner already. We’ve got that phase one locked in. We’re waiting for them to say which night they can play Leeds and which night they can play Reading before we can start moving on to the next ones. The conversations were happening here in Leeds with the agents and managers yesterday, and in Reading at lunchtime today.”
But fans will have to wait a while longer to learn the identity of the mystery act, with Benn adding:
“I think it will be December before I make the first announcement.”
Tickets for Leeds Festival 2015 are on sale now, from www.leedsfestival.com.
