Full of character and bursting at the seams with an unbelievable variety of pubs, shops, music venues and restaurants, Leeds has firmly established itself as one of the most exciting cities in the country.
The local music scene caters for all manner of genres and tastes, with intimate gigs at celebrated venues like the Brudenell Social Club complemented by a formidable and eclectic club scene. Film festivals, art exhibitions, theatre, comedy and literary events are all frequent attractions on the entertainment map.
It certainly doesn’t hurt that many of the city’s suburbs offer almost as much fun as the centre itself, with Horsforth, Chapel Allerton and the student hub of Headingley packed with things to do.
But while Leeds makes a virtue of its cutting-edge atmosphere, it also has its fair share of historical attractions. These include the superb, family-friendly Royal Armories Museum and the captivating ruins of Kirkstall Abbey, which have inspired everyone from Wordsworth to Turner.
On the food & drink front, there truly is something for everyone, with friendly coffee shops and lively cocktail bars ranged alongside fine dining establishments and an assortment of ‘world’ restaurants.
A day in Leeds wouldn’t be complete without a shopping spree – and you are truly spoilt for choice on the retail front. The Victoria Quarter, Corn Exchange, and exclusive Harvey Nichols store are all key places to visit, while the recently-opened Trinity development is overflowing with shops, bars, and even a specialist cinema.
