The Last Of Us and GTA V reign supreme at video game BAFTAs
The Last Of Us

Acclaimed action adventure title The Last Of Us has taken top honours at this year’s video game BAFTAs, winning five gongs including Best Game.

The remarkable survival-thriller – taking place in a post-apocalyptic landscape ravaged by zombie-like infected – topped our Best Games Of 2013 list back in December. And it seems the Academy shared our lofty opinion of the experience.

The Last Of Us

Hailed as the “perfect swan song” for the PS3 before the next generation of machines gets into full swing, it was announced only last week that Last Of Us will now be made into a Hollywood feature film.

Developer Naughty Dog also took home honours for Best Story, Best Action Adventure and Audio Achievement, while Ashley Johnson was named Best Performer for her portrayal of teenage survivor Ellie.

Hosted by comedian Dara O Briain, the awards named high-profile crime epic Grand Theft Auto V as Best British Game, Best Multiplayer and Best Design, while GTA creators Rockstar also received the prestigious Bafta Fellowship.

Co-founder and president Sam Houser said that Rockstar’s success was down to the “passion for bringing worlds to life” of its 900-strong team.

“Rockstar is a team and family and it has always been our policy to focus on collaboration,” he said.

PS Vita game Tearaway also took home three bronze masks. The adventure game, which is about a messenger on a mission to deliver a unique message to the player, won in the Artistic Achievement, Family, and Best Mobile And Handheld categories.

After winning the third gong, lead creator Rex Crowle shrugged and said:

“I’m running out of things to say.”
