Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich has agreed to enter into a three-way musical battle with comedian Will Ferrell and Red Hot Chili Peppers stickman Chad Smith, after Ferrell threw down the gauntlet.
The film funnyman appeared with Smith on US TV last month when the pair – often said to look uncannily alike – took part in a full-throttle drum-off.
Ferrell was declared the unlikely winner after unleashing a whole heap of cowbell, but it seems the fun doesn’t stop there.
Speaking to Spin, the comic declared:
“We spoke about another drum-off, with a third person that looks eerily similar to Chad and I. Lars Ulrich gets pissed because he gets mistaken for both me and Chad Smith. He can settle that score now.”
And Ulrich has now well and truly accepted the challenge, responding:
“It was a little lonely on the sidelines during the first drum-off, given the somewhat forced nature of the lookalike element between Chad Smith and Will Ferrell, when I’m truly the one carrying that dead-ringer gene around.
“I’m definitely up for the challenge…bring it on!”
Smith kindly offered his new opponent some sound tips:
Two pieces of advice for Lars. Leave the double bass drums at home and load up on cowbells!! http://t.co/PGVX9DAhPv

There’ll be nothing like some live practice to calm the nerves. Red Hot Chili Peppers play the Isle Of Wight Festival this weekend, while Metallica are currently gearing up for Glastonbury.
