How Twitter reacted to the all-female Ghostbusters cast

We already knew it was going to be an all-female affair, but today we got the official casting news on the new Ghostbusters film, courtesy of director Paul Feig.

He posted a photo on Twitter featuring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon:

Of course, Wiig and McCarthy both starred in Feig’s 2011 comedy hit Bridesmaids, so there’s no great surprise in seeing them reunited for the reboot.

Saturday Night Live cast members Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are a little more unexpected, given their lack of acting experience.

But then the original Ghostbusters did feature two of SNL’s early favourites in Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd, so perhaps it’s a nod to the history of the franchise.

Needless to say, the cast revelation sparked debate on Twitter…

‘I’m all for equal rights, but…’

Others were more enthusiastic…

While others were just fed up with another Hollywood remake:

Ghostbusters is due in cinemas on July 22, 2016.
