Behind its unassuming front, this cafe stretches up three floors overlooking Morgan Arcade. Serving nutritious, substantial and fairly priced homemade food, it’s the ideal place for a proper veggie lunch with variety (soups, salad bowls, quiche, chilli, curry and more). The vegan cakes are incredible, particularly the cinnamon and carrot cake.

This is by far the best Pan-Asian cuisine in Cardiff for vegetarians, vegans and even possibly meat-eaters. Their menu is vast, split into North Indian, South Indian and Oriental cuisine, plus there are lots of traditional sweet treats that are rarely seen in your standard Indian. Go for Atom Bombs to start – they’ll blow your head off!

Tucked away in the top corner of Castle Emporium, this stall is the go-to for vegan sweets, fresh cakes, snacks and staples. If you struggle to find ingredients like vegan condensed milk, soya protein products and chocolatey lunchbox fillers, a trip here will be exactly what you need. They stock cookbooks, clothes and toiletries too.

This stall pops up at Riverside and Roath Market most weeks, as well as at lots of other events in and around Cardiff, which is great because it means that we get lots of lovely produce! They hand-make pies, bombs (big spheres of vegetarian goodness), pakoras and other finger food, along with soup and salads.

If you’re after quick food with a difference, go to Clancy’s in the middle of Cardiff Market. It’s a veggie and vegan stand that sells lunches (wraps, pies, dhal, falafel), indulgent raw chocolate creations and cakes. You can also buy food to cook later (such as roasts and sausages) plus loads of herbs and spices.

For a three course meal built from a regularly changing menu, try Canteen. Its relaxed environment is no reflection to their attention to detail with their food, for every dish is flavourful, inventive and inspiring. While mostly veggie, there are always vegan choices and a slow-cooked meat dish too.
