Union of Genius

Known as Scotland’s first “soup café”, Union of Genius serves up delicious homemade soup which is ideal for people with special dietary requirements. With six different seasonal soups on the menu each day, many are dairy free or vegan as well as gluten free. Don’t forget to ask for a slice of gluten free bread to dip in your soup, it’s every bit as tasty as the “regular” bread on offer.

Loudon’s

A firm favourite for brunch, lunch or coffee, this café and bakery is a must-visit for those seeking out freshly baked gluten free cakes. All the gluten free bread, cakes and other sweet treats are prepared daily in the on-site bakery at Loudon’s. There are plenty of other gluten free lunch options available on the main menu, like pizza, gnocchi or soup, but the cakes are Loudon’s speciality – don’t go home without trying one (or two, we won’t tell).

Edinburgh Larder

Edinburgh Larder pride themselves on using seasonal and locally sourced produce to create healthy and tasty lunch options. With a huge variety of fresh salads and mouthwatering sandwiches on offer (which can be made up using gluten free bread), this is a great place for a light lunch. The café is quite small and snug, so be prepared to wait for a table – especially at the weekend – or order your gluten free deliciousness to take away and enjoy elsewhere.

This unique little Brazilian café serves up sweet and savoury gluten free crepes from a converted police box on the edge of the Meadows. With a generous range of fillings on offer, this is the perfect option for tasty gluten free food on the go. There’s no need to worry about what you can and can’t order as everything on the menu is gluten free!

Hula Juice Bar

As well as satisfying all your juice and smoothie needs, Hula is a great café (and it’s a gallery too) for enjoying a gluten free lunch or snack. Choose from their range of gluten free cakes, salads and soups which are available as sit-in or takeaway options. The food is always tasty, but it’s the juice which is the star of the show. There are green juices packed full of fruit, vegetable and “organic boosters” for the health-conscious among us, or be a bit naughty and opt for one of the milkshake smoothies which are made using creamy frozen yoghurt.
