Chris Hemsworth cast as the receptionist in Ghostbusters reboot

Who ya gonna call?

Chris Hemsworth, apparently.

There’s certainly something strange in Paul Feig’s neighbourhood. The Bridesmaids director has announced that he’ll be casting action-man archetype Hemsworth as the role of the receptionist, Janine Melnitz, in his updated version of Ghostbusters.

This might seem odd considering the role was previously played by Annie Potts, but the gender reversal should come as no surprise, considering Feig’s choice to replace the originally all male Ghostbusters cast with the female comedy dream team that is Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

Mostly known for his roles in action blockbusters such as Thor and Snow White and the Huntsman, Hemsworth should add an interesting change-up in a film that looks set to push the boundaries with its casting choices.

There has been mixed reaction to Feig’s news, but with a track record as strong as his and the unstoppable comedy duo that is McCarthy and Wiig – we reckon that Ghostbuster’s legacy is in pretty safe hands.

We won’t see Ghostbusters in the cinema until at least next summer, but until then just picture the hilarious image of Hemsworth shooting one of Janine the receptionist’s famous deadpan glares:
