Edinburgh Festival Fringe comedy review: Nick Revell: Feminist Porno Jihadi, reviewed by The Scotsman’s Kate Copstick.

★★★

Nick Revell should pretty much be compulsory viewing for young comics and comedy audiences at the Fringe. This is what it was like when comedy came fresh and frothing from the comedy cow and before it all got pasteurised and homogenised, semi-skimmed and replaced with a vegetarian substitute.

Nick Revell comes at you in a torrent of words (most of which, to be fair, are c*** or derivations thereof) and outrage and ideas and good, good old-fashioned satire. There are probably enough words in Nick Revell’s hour to make up an entire career for some other comics.

It is like being caught in a verbal wind tunnel and it is exhilarating and thought-provoking, angering and very funny. Nick has tried, he tells us, to “lose his rage” this year. Hate to tell you mate, but you have failed miserably. And thank you for that. Because here that rage is focused on Isis and hen nights, afternoon television, the royals, the middle classes and conspicuous consumption. But mainly Isis. He has some ideas that they might like. But not many.

I fear, despite his best efforts here, he will never make the Royal Variety Performance but oh, how I wish he would.
