10 of the best bacon butties in Manchester
Bangers and bacon roll

Everyone loves a bacon butty – just the thought of crisp, sizzling, salty bacon sandwiched between fluffy white bread is enough to get us salivating.

Whether you like back or streaky, in a bap, a rustic ciabatta or in simple sliced white, with ketchup or brown sauce, a bacon butty makes the world seem a better place.

Here’s our pick of 10 of Manchester’s finest.

Koffee Pot

Koffee Pot, with its diner feel and cool soundtrack, offers a variety of tempting breakfast dishes, but you can’t go wrong with the classic bacon butty. Elbow frontman Guy Garvey is a devotee. A bacon butty with toasted beef dripping sourdough and a brew? Sounds like the perfect start to the day to us.

8am – 8pm (5pm on Sundays). 84-86 Oldham Street, M1 1LW – Twitter

Trof’s bacon butties are simple and glorious – thick sliced white bloomer filled with good quality bacon. All their meat is free range or Freedom Farmed and locally sourced where possible, with bacon from Cheshire pigs and sausages hand made by Frosts butchers.

Breakfast served until 4pm. 8 Thomas St, M4 1EU – trofnq.co.uk

Rust & Stone

This café bar and take away set in the heart of Spinningfields focuses on fresh, healthy food – and even the bacon butties feel like they’re not too bad for you… Hand carved, maple cured bacon is thick cut and satisfying, served on fresh ciabatta. There are also coffees, frappés and loose leaf teas, plus smoothies and juices prepared before your very eyes, with virtuous additions such as spirulina, raw cacao nibs and matcha powder surely balancing out the bacon?

Breakfast served 7.30am – 11am, Hardman Square, Spnningfields – rustandstone.com

Bangers & Bacon

Breakfast is a distinctly porky affair at Bangers & Bacon in The Kitchens in Spinningfields, as you might expect. Mixing the quirky sausage flavours and bacon created by James and Heather at Bobby’s Bangers with the kitchen flair of Richard, you’re guaranteed a great bacon butty with quality ingredients. The breakfast club every Wednesday offers a breakfast sandwich including a coffee or tea for just £3.50, served from 7.30am. Bargain. If you fancy a twist, try two slices of artisan toasted bread with bacon jam.

7.30 – 11.30am daily, from 9.30am at weekends, The Kitchens, Irwell Square, Leftbank, Spinningfields, M3 3AG – Twitter

This lovely coffee spot, eatery and bar is also a bakery, so as you’d expect the bread is excellent, from rye to sourdough. And with meat supplied by WH Frost butchers, you know you’re on to a winner. The bacon sandwich is delicious, and £4.50. Coffee is from London’s Workshop Coffee.

47 King St West

47 King Street West, situated in – you guessed it – upmarket King Street West, is a classy restaurant which also offers a mean bacon sandwich (£4.50). A generous serving of bacon is piled on a fresh, rustic ciabatta, which adds a nice bit of texture.

Breakfast is served Mon – Sat 8am – 11.30am, and Sun 10am – 12.30pm. 47 King Street West, M3 2PW – 47kingstreetwest.com

Cured and grilled back bacon, served on soft white bloomer… Gorilla do an excellent bacon sandwich. With bread made in-house, and top notch bacon from Cheshire pigs, you can rest assured that you’re eating a quality breakfast. It’s served until 4pm too, so you can still have a pretty hefty lie-in.

Served until 4pm. 54-56 Whitworth Street West, M1 5WW – thisisgorilla.com

Sugar Junction

Does a bacon sandwich get much better than the Tib Street Butty at Sugar Junction? Mr. Frost’s locally sourced bacon (from award-winning butcher WH Frost, of course), on freshly baked buttered bread, with vanilla marscarpone. Simple, great quality ingredients – and a delicious, doorstep sandwich. You can also get that great bacon with pancakes, or with an Eggs Benedict. They’re spoiling you.

Breakfast served until 1pm. 60 Tib Street, M4 1LG – sugarjunction.co.uk

Atlas do a great breakfast deal available to takeaway – perfect if you’re in a hurry or on the way to work but still need a bacon fix. £3 gets you a good takeaway bacon butty along with a cup of their own blend premium coffee. Hangover? What hangover?

Breakfast served from 8am – 12pm, 376 Deansgate, M3 4LY – atlasbarmanchester.com

The Alchemist

For a classy breakfast, The Alchemist do proper butties – bacon, egg and bacon, or sausage and egg – along with a range of cocktails, from a classic Bloody Mary to a breakfast martini. There’s proper coffee, Taylor’s Yorkshire tea and fresh juice if you’re not quite up to cocktails in the morning. Sit on the terrace and imagine you’re on holiday.
