Pier Eight Lowry Manchester

New bars and restaurants continue to open at a rapid rate in Manchester, and this month sees a wealth of new options for dining and drinking.

From a Bavarian bier palace and a Brazilian barbecue to a bar boasting the UK’s largest array of Spanish gins, beers, wines and spirits, here’s our pick of the hottest new openings in Manchester this month.

Albert’s Schloss

This cavernous new Bavarian bier palace from the Trof family opened with much fanfare in October. They’re open from 11am for brunch or lunch, and through to 2am, with regular live music. Albert’s Schloss is Manchester’s first Tankovna, serving the freshest Pilsner this side of the Danube along with ten heritage brews on the taps, Alpine cocktails, homemade Schnapps, and an uber wine list. Expect cracking steaks, heavenly burgers and seasonal specials together with Bavarian flatbreads, sausages and schnitzel. Plus they have a Push for Prosecco button on the table.

Open now, 27 Peter Street, M2 5QR – albertsschloss.co.uk

Curtis Stewart Food - Quill Manchester

On 30 Oct, King Street welcomed its newest and highly anticipated exclusive bar and restaurant. More than £1 million has been invested into luxurious bar and eatery Quill, with Head Chef Curtis Stewart – a 27-year-old who has worked in fine dining establishments, multiple 4 AA Rosette and 3 AA Rosette restaurants and a number of venues with two Michelin stars. The menu follows a modern British theme with European influences – expect refined dining without the formality of formal dining. You can also enjoy bespoke cocktails in the bar on the ground floor.

Just opened in the stunning Barton Arcade, the deli at Lunya offers the very best Catalan and Spanish food and drink, including three different hams carved on the bone, over 40 Spanish cheeses and all of the essentials (and obscure ingredients) you would ever need to create your own taste of Spain. The bar has the UK’s largest array of Spanish gins, beers, wines and spirits, whilst the restaurant offers award winning takes on traditional Catalan dishes as well as modern and innovative twists that you would expect to see in Barcelona’s best restaurants and bars. We’ve heard they’ll even be offering Catalan Hotpot and Manchester Tart Catalana.

Open from 27 Oct, Barton Arcade, Deansgate, M3 2BB – lunya.co.uk

Mowgli, the house of the tiffin, has recently opened in the Corn Exchange and is all about the fresh reality of Indian home cooking – not your typical curry house experience. Expect street food dishes such as gunpowder chicken, tea steeped chick peas with green ginger and rhubarb dhal, tamarind treacle ribs, and lamb chops with turmeric chips. We’re rather excited about their Bombay chip butty.

Home Sweet Home GN

Home Sweet Home has been a Northern Quarter favourite since it opened in 2011 offering Southern Californian comfort food and a dazzling display of cakes, and October saw a new branch opening in the Great Northern – as a fully-loaded restaurant and bar, not just a café. Expect a cakeshake menu, as well as hot desserts and a bar area offering an array of booze and creative cocktails.

Brightly coloured Cabana has just opened in the Corn Exchange, bringing Brasilian barbecue to the streets of Manchester. Check out the spicy Malagueta chicken as either wings or a main course, as well as classic Latin American cuts of steak from free-range grass-fed South American herds, and Feijoada – a heart-warming bowl of black bean stew, with pulled pork, sausage and rib meat, served with biro-biro rice.
