— Burger Off (@BurgerOffHove) December 4, 2015
Burger Off is home to the infamous XXX Chilli burger, which not only comes with an 18 certificate, but also with a disclaimer – you have to sign a form saying you accept all responsibility for any effects incurred due to the consumption of the burger. At £4.50 for a single, or £6 for a double, this scarily hot dish clocks in somewhere between seven and nine million on the Scoville scale, and has actually hospitalised some of those brave (or foolhardy) enough to take the challenge on. Continue at your peril.

Man v Woodies ultimate burger challenge is not for the faint-hearted. The aim is to get down 48oz of prime beef, six rashers of bacon, two fried eggs, six lashings of melted cheese, all the usual burger trimmings, and a monster portion of fries in one hour. — The Lord Nelson Inn (@NellyBrighton) May 30, 2015
Head down to The Lord Nelson Inn on Trafalgar Street and ask for the Nelson’s Column. One burger, one person, one hour doesn’t sound like too much of a challenge – until you see the flipping thing. Three 8oz beefburgers, 12 strips of smoked streaky bacon, six slices of mature cheddar, three slices of beefsteak tomato, half an iceberg lettuce, five giant onion rings, as well as 500g of coleslaw, four gherkins, and 1lb of homemade chips. Make it through that lot, and you can swerve the £30 bill.
