Homemade by Thelma’s

Nestled in the suburbia of Nether Edge, check out Homemade by Thelma’s Burger and Shake Wednesday nights, which are rumoured to return in the spring. Expect delectable burger combos for veggies and meat-eaters  alike. If you can’t wait until then, you may be lucky enough to spy a burger on their daily menu – loving the sound of an edamame, tofu, sesame burger, miso-pickled red cabbage and salad.

The Riverside

Get yourself down to Kelham Island and pop into the The Riverside. They have real ales on tap, a beer garden, regular live music and the Twisted Burger company (as found at the Harley) are the guys behind the burgers. The menu features – rashers delight – bacon patty, Monterey jack, slaw and Russian dressing through to the hallouminati – double halloumi patty, roasted red pepper and jalapeno salsa. You can add extras with a choice of sides and fries – hellfire seasoning anyone?

Anchorage Bar

Sit back and relax at the Anchorage bar located in the city centre’s West One complex. With a U.S-influenced menu and rustic style, you can enjoy a burger together with a selection of craft beers or cocktails. Go for the mac n cheese burger or cheeseburger made with 35 day dry-aged beef served in a brioche bun and you’ll not go hungry. Look out for their Tuesday offer where a burger is only £5.

Tamper @ Seller’s Wheel

Go for a New Zealand-style burger in trendy Tamper on Arundel Street and indulge in the All Black/Kiwi  – which is exactly as described, as the bun and cheddar are black. The 7oz beef patty comes with lollo rosso, sliced heritage tomato, caramelised onion, beetroot, fried egg, baby gherkin, Tamper fat chips and aioli.

The old fire station on Division Street is home to Bungalows and Bears and a spoilt-for choice burger menu with over ten to choose from. Fusion flavours are combined to create tempting choices like the hickory-smoked beef burger with crispy Korean BBQ pork or you can go for the packed farmyard burger stacked with pork confit, rarebit and fried egg. All are served on a brioche bun and come with fries. If you want to be creative, then build your own burger with your favourite ingredients. Plus every Tuesday it’s 2 for 1.

Fear X Loathing can be found on West Street and their ethos is simple – burgers, beer, music and good times. The burger menu covers all tastes with beef, chicken, lamb and veggie choices. Burger fans can feast on the chilli jam chicken burger with cheese and spinach, smoked bacon and cheese beef burger or go veggie with portobello mushroom and halloumi. Quite rightly, all burgers are served medium, unless otherwise requested on a brioche bun and come with double cooked chips.

Smoke BBQ

Based In the heart of the city, Smoke BBQ is all about authentic American low and slow cooking, fire pits and wood smoking. It’s food to get hands on and stuck into which goes for the burgers too. They are not for the diet-conscious, so give into indulgence with the bacon mac n cheese, the chilli cheese burger ladened with beer cheese sauce or chomp on the pulled pork stacked beef burger with slaw – all come with twice-cooked chips.

You might not have considered Cuban-styled Revolucion on Mappin Street as your first choice when deciding where to go for burgers but you should. On the menu there’s a ‘Hamburguesas’ section dedicated to the joys of burger with the Cuban stack – flat-iron beef topped with manchego cheese, pork & chorizo with smoked cheddar or go for a more maverick choice of surf and turf, a beef burger topped with calamari and garlic aioli. All are served in brioche and come with rum mayo, fries and slaw.
