With all the buzz surrounding last weekend’s release of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (if you can call major disappointment and incessant internet whining ‘buzz’), it’d be easy to skip over the fact that some genuinely exciting Batman movie news has graced us with its presence.
Yes, that’s right. We got our first glimpse of The LEGO Batman movie late last week when the first teaser trailer for the film dropped, and already we’re getting our block-building needs satisfied once more with a second trailer.
Will Arnett’s Batman introduces the teaser himself, thanking the “uber nerd fans” for “blowing up the Twittersphere”, before we’re treated to a short scene involving the Caped Crusader and butler Alfred, engaging in a self-referential exchange that nods to all of the heroes’ past cinematic excursions.
And it already looks better than Batman v Superman.
As anyone who saw our ranking of the Batman big screen outings from worst to best last week will know, we rated The LEGO Movie as the best Batman film going. The only way to improve on it would be to include more Batman, which is exactly what The LEGO Batman Movie is.
Interestingly, the clip actually includes a short cameo from Ben Affleck, who appears for literally less than a second in his current Batman v Superman guise.
With Batman v Superman being lambasted as the nonsensical mess that it is (it’s been leaving a lot of superhero fans disappointed), LEGO Batman’s brand of hilarity, pop-culture references, and irreverent fun could bizarrely be the best Batman film you could possibly hope for.
The LEGO Batman Movie is due for release on February 10, 2017
