Step inside Edinburgh’s new floating coffee shop
Counter barge

After first setting up shop in a former Morningside police box in August 2014, we’ve watched independent coffee sellers The Counter go from strength to strength. Last summer the business grew, with two more coffee boxes opening in Edinburgh – one in Tollcross and the other outside the Usher Hall on Lothian Road.

Today owners Ali and Sally McFarlane took the next step in their journey – launching a newly refurbished (stationary) barge on the Union Canal which serves coffee straight onto the towpath.

Serving a bespoke roast created by Mr Eion alongside homemade cakes, The Counter have consistently proven that you don’t need much space to be a brilliant coffee shop.
