Trainspotting 2 stars choose clubbing in Edinburgh

A couple of weeks ago we alerted you to the fact that the Trainspotting 2 team were on the lookout for extras to appear in a nightclub scene in Edinburgh.

Although there was some uproar from older fans that only 18 to 30 year olds were invited to take part, over a thousand excited whippersnappers queued up outside Cav in Tollcross yesterday for the chance to swing with Spud and boogie with Begbie.

Decked out in ’80s gear – as requested by the production company – and queued around the corner, the Trainspotting 2 hopefuls stoically braved the signature Edinburgh summer weather (pouring rain) yesterday afternoon.

Although the event was officially due to start around 4pm, some had been waiting since 7:30am in an attempt to guarantee themselves a spot on the big screen.

While stars Ewan McGregor (Renton), Robert Carlyle (Begbie) and Jonny Lee Miller (Sick Boy) were on set inside the club, sadly it seems they eluded the cameras.

That being said, director Danny Boyle stepped up to the plate and posed for photos with excited fans during the shoot. If there’s one thing we’ve learned since T2 started filming, it’s that our Danny loves a selfie.

Despite the age old adage that being an extra in a movie is pretty dull, it seems that everyone in Cav last night had a great time.
