The best new additions to Netflix in July
Bojack Horseman

If you’re looking to peel yourself away from the rolling news for a while, then how about checking out the new additions to Netflix this month?

Real-life events are currently in a state of flux – as the country decides what bits belong where, who’s in charge and whether your Nan has to become a member of the Shadow Cabinet.

It’s time to stop that endless gawping though, take a deep breath, and find some solace in your old friend Netflix.

The UK library of the streaming service gets plenty of new additions this July, so we picked out some particular highlights to dive into.

Bill Hicks: Revelations

What is it? Stand-up comedy’s true rock n’ roll star, Bill Hicks remains a revered name on the American comedy circuit, even years after his untimely death. Revelations sees Hicks in full flight during his UK tour and tackling all the biggest subjects, with that slow Southern drawl.

Gilmore Girls

What is it? The fast-talking kooky ‘dramedy’ series is set to be rebooted on Netflix later this year. In preparation, the streaming giant is dishing out the 7 previous seasons of Gilmore Girls from July 1. Prepare yourself for laughs, tears and the breakout performance of Melissa McCarthy.

Stranger Things

What is it? Winona Ryder leads the line-up for Netflix’s next potential breakout series. Stranger Things is set in 1980s small-town America, and follows the disappearance of a young boy into supernatural occurrences and top secret government operations. It’s a new drama with more than a sprinkle of classic Spielberg thrown in for good measure.

Labyrinth

What is it? What could be more stress-relieving than the sight of a Goblin King Bowie, prancing around a maze in tight trousers – accompanied by the whole of Jim Henson’s workshop? Nothing, nothing could be more stress-relieving.

Bojack Horseman: Season 3

Bojack Horseman

What is it? A Netflix original which proves you can’t judge a show on one episode. Bojack Horseman follows a washed-up sitcom star who just so happens to be of the equine persuasion.

Despite receiving something of a critical walloping after the first few episodes, plenty of viewers kept with Bojack and found it to be a truly black comedy which blends the laughs with depth – ruminating about depression and the emptiness of fame.
