Superheros seem to get stranger and stranger, and with more new characters arriving on our screens, it’s hard to stand out from the crowd
Amazon is looking to do just that with The Tick, and from the first images they’ve shared with the internet, it looks like one of the strangest shows we’ve seen in a long while.
The official synopsis is as follows:
“In a world where superheroes have been real for decades, an underdog accountant with zero powers comes to realize his city is owned by a global super villain long-thought dead. As he struggles to uncover this conspiracy, he falls in league with a strange blue superhero.”
Here’s everything you need to know about The Tick:
It stars Peter Serafinowicz
Talented British actor and comedian Peter Serafinowicz has managed to keep a fairly low profile over the years, despite some high ranking roles.
Could The Tick change all of that, as the 44-year old takes to the superhero genre once more after playing Garthan Saal in Guardians of the Galaxy?
Things are definitely going to get strange
The original comic version of The Tick has been described as “an absurdist spoof of comic book superheroes”, so be on the look out for some convention bending sequences.
Add into the mix The Tick’s powers, including something known as “drama power” – which allows his powers of super-strength to increase the more dramatic the situation is – and things could get very weird indeed.
His costume is rather… flattering
No disrespect to Serafinowicz, but we’d image he’s not in your traditional superhero shape.
Which is why The Tick’s flattering garb – all impossibly chiselled abs and pectoral muscles – is even more comical.
Things get plain worrying below the belt (cropped out in our version)…
It’s a reboot
This isn’t the first time the hero has been around in televisual form; 2001 saw a nine episode season of a live-action sitcom starring Patrick Warburton (Seinfeld‘s ‘Puddy’).
The Tick is more mainstream than you’d think
You or I may never have heard of him, but The Tick’s gotten around a bit, ever since his 1986 debut for the New England Comics chain in Boston.
Since then we’ve had an animated series in 1994, and in the same year a video game based on the character for the SEGA Genesis!
It’ll be fighting for your support
The Tick is being released as part of Amazon’s 2016 comedy pilot season, and will be debuted alongside other shows like the suggestively titled I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson.
Subscribers will be encouraged to provide feedback on the pilots to help determine which will make it to series.
The Tick debuts on Amazon Prime on August 19
