Glasgow Botanic Gardens to become a free outdoor cinema this August
Outdoor open air cinema

Grab your picnic blanket and pack a pillow – it’s time for an outdoor summer film screening extravaganza, right here in Glasgow.

For two nights only, the Botanic Gardens will be transformed into a grassy movie theatre, on both August 18 and 19. The screenings are free to attend, with space for 500 people to watch and enjoy the main feature.

Organisers, Visit West End, are asking locals to vote for their preferred movies through Facebook to decide which film will be shown.

The choices for Thursday 18’s ‘Reel Classics’ themed screening include CasablancaBreakfast at Tiffany’s, Some Like It Hot and
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

For Friday 19’s ‘Modern Classics’ showing, voters can choose from the likes of the original GhostbustersET and Back to the Future.

The outdoor cinema will work on a ‘first come, first served’ basis, meaning you don’t have to fight for a ticket online – simply show up in plenty of time and you’ll be guaranteed a comfy spot of grass.

You’ll have to bring your own seating, but the Botanic Gardens kiosk will be selling hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks until late, so you won’t go hungry.
